• The World Creation: From Sinai To Present - personal art exhibition of Yael in the Kyiv/s Hesed

"Darkness disappears before the light instantly, without a struggle, plunging to the astonishment those who chose it for themselves: what has happened to the night, which had seemed so robust, so resilient and full of energy? And then the day explodes with laughter, triumphant laughter of the good, as it is written: "Then will our mouth be filled with laughter" (Tehillim, 126:2).

These positive feelings – joy, warmth, good laughter, love to the world – occur in a person when he admires the artwork of popular artist Yael (Irena Trots). These impressions are born in the hearts of viewers of all ages and social stratas. Therefore, the ICF "Jewish Hesed "Bnei Azriel" which has as one of the priorities of its work the development of Jewish culture and support of traditions, has been highly interested in the works of the author and organized a charity solo art exhibition "Creation of the World: from Sinai to the Present". On the 3rd of October, 2017 at the Kiev Hesed was held a solo presentation of the exhibition in the creative space of the Fund – "Jewish Art Hub". "Jewish Art Hub", which niche in the world of art is a contemporary Jewish art, is trying to reveal to visitors and clients of the Fund new facets of Jewish culture and open the new names, introducing its visitors with talented authors. This time the chosen author was Irena Trots, known in the art world under the pseudonym Yael.

Yael began her creative career in 2007 by implementing for 10 years a number of creative projects and exhibitions, which took place at the National Philharmonics of Ukraine, the gallery "Chocolate house", the Ivan Gonchar Museum, art-gallery "Pit-Art", exhibition center "Mystetskyi Arsenal", the Museum of history of Kiev. The main subject of interest of Yael is the world in all its diversity and beauty, as well as timeless spiritual values. Therefore, the creative outcomes of the artist can be divided into three unique series "Creation", "Red Sinai" and "Houses of the Holy", the paintings from which represent the current exposition.

The exhibition features 26 works, including 25 works of the author – the gorgeous paintings and 1 amazing work – the installation, which premiered in Hesed. The three cycles appear as one integrated composition. This experience not only promotes the philosophy of the artist, but also the fact that the exhibition is dedicated to the most important holiday for the Jewish people – Rosh Hashanah. The new year has been symbolic – a kind of anniversary of the most significant for human civilization event: 3330 years ago there was the Sinai Revelation. Moshe Rabbeinu, known to most people as the Prophet Moses who gave the people the Commandments, given by G-d on the top of Sinai mountain. Commandments, which became the basic rules of life on Earth. The cycle of works of the author is dedicated to this event; it depicts the beauty of Sinai in all its facets with unusual, three-dimensional technique. So, the secular viewer is able to view Sinai as a unique landscape at dawn or sunset, in the desert or as close as the bird can fly near its top... the Spiritual man will see in the paintings of the author the timeless beginning – the mother’s breast of Sinai, feeding all of humanity. Calm, gentle tones in some paintings give way to bright, rich red color on other paintings: original series "Red Sinai" brings us back to reality, reminding about the necessity of keeping the commandments in these troubled times and at the same time, speaking about the unconditional victory of Good over evil, of Day over Night, and Joy over sorrow.

It is important to note that the author’s choice of a number of works presented – 26 – also has a sacred meaning. The number "26" is not simply a numeric code of the name of G-d, but also points to the true author, the Creator. And the cycle "Heaven" reflects the richness of shades of nature, given to us by G-d in His wise generosity. The third cycle of works represented by Yael – "Creation of the World" – unites logically the whole exposition into one. Such a warm, soft, and homy are felt the pictures "Fifth day of Creation", "Sixth day of Creation" and "Sabbath"! Yael offers the viewer a completely unconventional look at these events through the author's installation presented in the interior of the Jewish Art Hub. So, the picture "Sixth day of Creation" is accompanied by...a cradle and a rocking chair made of vines!

The motifs depicted in the picture, came on a baby mattress, on a fabric of a soft blanket left by the caressing hand of grandmother. Standing next to the installation in full size, and admiring the painting "Sixth day of Creation", the viewer might seem that soon in the cradle will appear a newborn that will grow up to do many good things and become a mature man – compassionate, loving grandma. It is only a minute since she has left a cozy room, with her knitting and glasses on the chair... The picture "Fifth day of Creation" emphasizes the effect created by the author: on the background of a distant Sun and its rays is placed a real ostrich egg, the largest in the world. The author focuses the audience on the importance of Life bestowed by G-d: magnificent luminary is so small compared to the egg, where the life matures! And the final, soothing chord of the exhibition is the painting "Shabbat", where we can see two traditional candles burning, soaring egg symbolizing life, and gentle, warm wool which means home and rest after righteous deeds...
